I’ve been receiving more and more calls about lost animals. This is not an area of my work I consider to be in my “lane” and will sometimes try and help, but would prefer not to do so.

Most people don’t know that only about one to three percent of lost animals is actually ever found by their parents. It goes up to three percent if they have a microchip. That percentage does not take into account those animals that are found but die due to illness. The ones that are found have always been because their parents work exceptionally hard to find them and don’t give up hope.

So I ask all those reading this to think about and pass on the following:

Even if your animal never goes outside get them microchipped. If they do end up at the Humane Society they will check for it and contact you. Also make sure the information is up to date.

Don’t under estimate a scared animal. Too many get out of their carriers and escape collar leashes. I recommend a harness leash for all dogs. Carriers need to be carefully checked to ensure they are latched tightly. The nylon carriers can be torn by cats, I know I had a cat who did that.

Keep all cats inside. I can’t say this enough. You wouldn’t (hopefully) let your dog roam around why do you think it’s okay for your cat? They don’t live as long as house cats. Can bring diseases in that humans can catch and the songbird population is endangered partly due to cats. For those that think you can’t keep a cat happy inside, I know better than that. Give them access to windows put a window feeder on a window with a 2-way film. Get them cat trees and shelves to walk up high on. Happy cats are ones that can be up high. Toys to keep them amused and play time with you every day. Doctors will tell you playing with your animal is great for your health. So don’t just bring them in and ignore them. Cats are not independent they need social interaction.

Anytime a dog is outside of your yard put them on a leash. Always. Anything can happen so quickly.

Let’s make this a safer year for our animals. Let’s not have the heartache of losing our animals this way especially since it is so much more preventable.

It is so interesting to me how those above show me in so many different ways what I need to be addressing either on my blog and/or in my newsletter. Recently I have had numerous people refer to me as a Pet Psychic. The local news discussing an event I volunteered at stated there was a “Dog Psychic” at this event when the booth I was at had my correct title across it, Animal Communicator. So let me break this down for you and why it’s so important to me people understand the terminology.

Psychic is a person who can foresee the future. They can have premonitions and hear what may happen in the future and help with a choice you may need to make. People who are only Psychics can not speak to those in another dimension.

Medium is a person who can communicate with loved ones whom have crossed over, angels, guides and a higher power. People who are only Mediums can not foresee the future. Some of us can be Psychic and Mediums. John Edward is a good example of both.

Animal Communicator is a person who can communicate with any animal. We all do it differently and most communicators receive images from the animals, as that is how animals communicate with each other. I receive images and my brain will translate their thoughts into words and sentences for me. I also receive their physical feelings and emotions.

Based on the above information, I’m not a Pet Psychic because I can communicate with all animals including the snake living in my backyard. He’s not a pet, but he actually told me his name, Apple. Great, I have a snake with a sense of humor living in my backyard. I guess it’s better to have a funny one and as long as he doesn’t offer me one, I’m okay.

I don’t call our animals living with us “pets” most of the time, as that term tends to demean them. I like animal family member or animal companion. When working with the animals I don’t bring out my bone or fish shaped (depending on the animal) crystal ball. “Awww, I see treats in your future.” I’m not telling their future, I’m talking with them. Calling me a Dog Psychic was very off. All my kitty and horse friends take offense.

Okay, so now for abilities we have in this profession. There are four of them. Each of us has at least one and some of us all four. I find most people have one strong ability and another weaker one. I do have all four and some are stronger than others.

Images – I receive quick snapshots during readings. Recently a dog was telling me what his favorite procession was and I got an image of a red round circle in my mind. When I explained to the parent what I was seeing, he explained that was the dogs Frisbee which was his favorite toy. The images may be symbolic as well. John Edward talks about seeing musical notes rising from people and couldn’t understand what that meant because when asked these people had nothing to do with music. He finally realized when people pray they have these musical notes going to Heaven.

Sounds – I get words in my head. It may be just one word or a few sentences. So there is a lot of interpretation going on during sessions. It usually sounds like my own voice, but can sound like another person’s voice. At times I can hear sounds/voices with my ears as well. I had a client walk in and heard very clearly a cat meowing.

Emotions and physical sensations – I pick up on emotions coming from people and animals, which help me, interpret the images and sounds I’m getting. I can also receive where they are feeling pain in their physical body. At times I will smell my grandfather’s pipe and know he is around. All my senses can be involved.

Knowingness – Ever just know something without understanding how or why you know it? I may be with a client and just know something about them without a doubt. I may suddenly know not to turn down that road or know an animal will be running in front of my car soon.

How does all this actually work? Don’t worry I’m not getting all scientific on you. There are books out there explaining this in more detail you can find if you are interested.

Animal Communication

We are all energy and that energy from all of us is around us all the time. All our thoughts, words, emotions, desires, etc. is energy. If I see a photo of an animal my mind will automatically go towards their energy they are putting out and will connect with them and they with me. My mind interprets that energy and depending on the animal and energy I receive it in one or more of the abilities discussed above. After all, when people talk to each other it is energy that is passing back and forth between us. Our brains interpret that energy and we communicate.

I find most people are communicating with their animals and hear them all the time. Their brains are familiar with their animal’s energy. But, because it sounds like their own thoughts and voices they don’t realize what is happening. So many times I hear the animal tell me their mommy and daddies are hearing them just fine and to please listen. I get asked a question about the animal and the answer they receive just confirms what they had thought already. No they didn’t think it, they were hearing their animals.

I will never forget receiving a call from a young woman who wanted to know why her cat was acting in certain ways. Every time she told me of the issue she would state what she thought the reason. She did that about six times in a row. By the third one I was having a hard time from not laughing out loud as she answered her own question each time perfectly. Than she wanted to book a session. I politely declined even though that would have been very easy money. I did advise her she knew the reasons already; she was hearing her cat. All she had to do was take care of the reasons and TADA issues resolved.

Mediumship

Along with communicating with animals this is one of my strongest abilities. Because we are energy there is a vibration we generate. Ours is slower. My energy vibration has to increase and theirs will decrease in order for us to communicate. At times this can cause me to get cold, but I tend to get a very dry mouth from it. Those above will send me images, thoughts, words, emotions, physical sensations and knowingness.

Being able to give messages from someone’s loved ones, angels and spirit guides is so important and I hope to leave people feeling better and maybe at times add some healing. I always say if I had one wish it would be one day with my dad here on earth to talk with him, hold him and hear all he has to say. What I do is just a sliver of that wish for people.

Psychic

I have to admit this is my least favorite thing to do. Everyone’s angels and spirit guides will tell you some information for the future, but I have found they prefer you learn by not knowing. Also, any ethical Psychic will tell you even the best of us are only 75 to 85 percent correct for numerous reasons. One of them being you changed your own future. There are always many paths we can take and free will is a gift given to us.

As you can see, the terms Psychic, Medium and Communicator are not interchangeable. In this field some of us don’t bother correcting people or they may not know themselves. Those above are telling me for reasons I don’t entirely know yet, to go a head and teach those who wish to know.

Wouldn’t it be nice if knowing our loved ones above, spirit guides and angels could tell us clearly when we are making a mistake, heading down the wrong path and on our way to unnecessary pain. They do at times, not all the time as we may have chosen prior to this lifetime to experience certain things. But if there is a lack of awareness on our part, an unwillingness to look at the signs and signals, mistakes that could have been avoided will be made. Denial can be strong and our way of not facing the truth. We sometimes fear change even if that change will make our lives happier.

I find it interesting that as I am writing this I am watching the last show of Oprah and she talks about the “whispers” we get. If we don’t listen the whispers become a thump on the head, then a brick on the head. If we still don’t listen we get a whole brick wall falling on us. We have that happen to us numerous times in our lives. All of us do.

I just got out of some rubble myself. It took a huge wall of it to make me realize you have to let go sometimes. No matter how much you want something, it may not be in your best interest. I didn’t let go quietly, it was done with the anger it deserved. That I had to do so should make me angry. The anger at my treatment is what finally gave me the strength to choose the right path. Once I did let go and closed that door for good, I watched in amazement and with such gratitude how other doors opened. The right doors with the right opportunities, the right support and the right people. So you may have to change something that makes you fearful, angry, sad and hurt, but use that time to open doors that make you happier.

Here are some of the things I have learned from those above to help us in this lifetime.

When you love yourself it’s easier to make choices.

Make decisions out of love and not fear and learn to recognize the difference.

Know your power. Use it to teach others by example.

Don’t let others deter you when you know you are doing the right thing. Stay in your own lane.

If you make a mistake, learn from it and don’t beat yourself up over it.

Admit the mistake, look at it honestly and fix it.

Monitor your thinking, if it is negative, change it.

Understand your thinking and your choices are the ONLY things you can change.

Look at the love and what you have in your life, not what you don’t have, be grateful.

Send out loving energy to the world, that is the only thing that will change it.

So listen to those whispers that you hear. Stop and consider the choices in your life, those whispers will let you know when something is not right or you should take action. Remember to ask for help from your Angels.

Recently my husband and I flew to Kauai for 6 days for a company event. This was my first trip to Kauai and I already knew this island was not as developed as the other island for tourists. It is famous for all the chickens on the island that roam everywhere. These are Red Jungle Fowl and the roosters are bright and beautiful. It is also baby season so little ones were running around everywhere. This island quickly became my favorite due to the beauty and wildlife.

Kauai has some great places to stay and many activities. The hotel we stayed at was so beautiful with a water area filled with Koi. We were there with numerous people we knew and most of them were doing the normal activities people go to this island for…zip lining, helicopter ride, snorkeling and kayaking.

The hotel had three Nene’s (goose) which is the Hawaiian state bird that is endangered. Also two Black Headed Swans not native to Kauai at all. One of the swans and myself visited twice a day. A gentle and charming creature that would lower its head and make a noise every time I said how beautiful he/she was.

Can’t say I knew anyone else there who was as excited about the animal life (except for some friends) as I was especially the birds. I found a small Hawaii bird book that became my bible during this time and I made a list of what birds I wanted to see while I was there.

Luckily my husband does not like doing the normal things others were doing, but lighthouses is one of his interests which happen to be on a reserve that had 6 different bird species nesting while we were there. The important one I wanted to see was the Red Footed Boobie. With a pale blue beak and red feet and legs, this was a once in a life time event for me. They are graceful in the air as I saw when 2 of them coasted in the air in front of me. Landing and being on the ground is another manner. It is baby time and the photo is one below on the nest.

As we explored the island I checked off the birds one by one. Red Footed Boobie, Albatross, Great Frigate Bird, Common Myna, Cattle Egrets, Red Crested Cardinals, Nene, Tattler, Spotted Dove and Zebra Dove.

2 days left and as I sat in the hotel room emailing, a spotted dove landed on our balcony. I threw out some chips and it sat and watched me. Then proceeded to eat them with obvious enjoyment. It almost walked into the room. Not that shy there. I laughed one morning going into the room where a buffet breakfast was set up for us. We could eat outside as well and there was an employee standing with her back to the dirty dishes against the wall. There on one of the dishes was one of the Zebra Doves enjoying a roll. I looked at the employee who knew the dove was there and asked her not to shoo it away. She smiled and said that was why her back was to it, can’t shoo away what you don’t see.

Okay, why all of this about our trip? You probably think I’ll be pulling out the vacation slides and trapping you into watching them. Thought about it, just kidding. I’m writing this because of the disconnect with nature so many of us have. Most of the people there didn’t even notice the birds at the hotel, let alone on the island. Zipping through the forest whether in a helicopter or zip line is great, but not one person who did these things did it to see the island or the wildlife. It was only for the excitement of the movement. What’s the point of having eyes if you don’t see?

Spend time really becoming aware of the wildlife of any place you visit and of course where you live. If you don’t know about wildlife you are missing so much laughter, joy, miracles and important knowledge. Especially with the kids, they love to learn about animals. They need to know about our world on a broad basis and experiencing animals adds so much to their lives.

A good example of our disconnect with nature was on the news last night. A young squirrel was on school grounds, animal control was called, but before they arrived, concern the squirrel was rabid started to scare everyone, so a cop pepper sprayed it. I saw enough of the video to see a hungry and scared young squirrel just looking for help. Nothing it did warranted the fear of rabies. Animal control cleaned it up and released it, hopefully away from people who don’t have any experience with squirrels. Knowledge is not only powering, but generates common sense causing less harm to others. It saddened me to know a great opportunity for the teachers to teach about squirrels was lost and all they taught was fear. Angered they harmed an animal unnecessarily.

Being in nature is my church and I came away feeling spiritually regenerated and grateful for such an incredible opportunity. By the way, you never know when you will receive a gift from nature. On the last day as we were heading towards the airport I took out my lipstick from my purse, opened it up and there stuck to the inner top of it was a feather. I had used this one a few times during the trip and it had always been in my purse. A nice goodbye gift from all my feathered friends I made on the island

There are many ways to wake up in the morning. Alarms clocks buzzing or playing music. A partner getting up and hopefully making the coffee. Waking up on your own whether you want to or not.

I’ve always had a favorite way and that option has not always been available. Lately, it has been and funny how you don’t realize how much you’ve missed some of life’s wonderful things until you get them back.

My favorite way to wake up in the morning….a kitty playing. Amazing how thunderous it sounds to have one cat running at full tilt across the room. Nascar has nothing on a cat for the decibel levels produced. Balls jingling as they are being batted across the floor. BAM, as they go flying into a paper bag.

As I wake up to sounds of joy and happiness, I smile and think how grateful I am for having a happy and healthy cat.

During the year it actually became funny how many ways I was reminded of the help I was getting. I met numerous people whose name was Robin or Robinson. I had people tell me stories of Robins and given a book about a Robin. Unless I was in a coma, there was no way I could have missed all the reminders of their help and that they were there for me.

It was a year of growth, sometimes gently, sometimes not and yet my awareness and sense of peace grew. Who I am and what my passion is became more defined and important to me. I felt closer to those above and yet didn’t feel I needed them with me all the time quite as much. This new balance did take most of the year and hitting bottom a few times. But those times just made me more determined and I got up stronger and well, okay, more fed up with some things. When you finally respect yourself enough to stand with two fists towards the Heavens and say, “ENOUGH”, then you have learned to love yourself. By the way, whenever I do that the response above is always joy and laughter.

They know I realize it’s me I’m saying enough to and not them. I know I create my own reality no matter what is happening. I could feel the strength of my convictions actually strengthen my body as well as my spirit. I’ve been dedicated to my work all along, but now it includes more conviction and determination on my part to be there for as many people and animals as I can be.

There is one aspect of my job that has my biggest passion. To be the voice of all those who are not being heard. Whether it’s a child, senior, abused woman or animal doesn’t matter. Whether it’s those above wanting to speak to loved ones still here, doesn’t matter. So many of us are hidden away. We don’t speak up out of fear, a sense of unworthiness or just being another species. So many feel unheard, that is my work here on earth, to help them be heard.

To all those who feel voiceless, there is hope and help, just reach out and continue to do so until you are being heard. To all those who haven’t taken the time to hear all those around you, please stop and become more aware. The joy of hearing for the first time a kitty say thank you for loving me, a dog telling you they know you saved their life is beyond words.

I just recently came back from a trip to Chicago and Milwaukee. Both great cities and being able to see a baseball game at Wrigley Field was wonderful. I’ve been to both cities before, but it has been awhile. So I made sure I looked around during this visit. Not just at the sights. But at what people were doing and not doing. I looked for new birds and ones I don’t normally see along with other animals on the ground.

It didn’t take me long to realize how little wildlife there is that is visible in our cities and suburbs. I love Seagulls, but saw a lot fewer then I expected. All birds seemed to be scarce. A few here and there and I saw a woman being dragged by her dog who was chasing a rabbit. The rabbit won by the way. I remember there being squirrels in suburbs and parks where we spent most of our time. I didn’t see even one squirrel.

It wasn’t for lack of looking either. Whether riding in the car going someplace or just watching out the hotel window I watched and my heart began to ache as I missed my animal friends.

Our hotel outside of Milwaukee was by a river and the attached restaurant where we had breakfast had a huge window to look onto the river. I spent most of my time looking out the window and hoping to see some of my animal friends. A sparrow now and then was all I saw. But then, I decided to look around at others in the restaurant. As I watched all the people who had this beautiful view, I realized that none of them gave it a look, not even once while I was watching them. Their food and even who they were with got all the attention. One woman was by herself and she ate and stared at the seat across from her the whole time.

It wasn’t just the view, no one looked at anyone else either. It was like watching people in a one way mirror. Invisible to them and yet they know there are people on the other side.

Of course, I’m not saying don’t pay attention to who is with you or stare at people. I’m saying, notice what is around you. We miss so much information and beauty by locking ourselves up inside ourselves. When you don’t even think to look out the window next to a river while enjoying a meal, your world may be too small.

Our last breakfast looking out the window I mentally asked those above to let me see a few more animals before we left. I called out to the animals around asking them to come see me. A moment later, a female Robin showed up which is currently my animal totem. Then a few more sparrows and gulls started to circle above the river. Another minute and a woodpecker landed on the trunk of the tree next to me and looked for food. A Gold Finch settled on a branch and then numerous sparrows.

It was then time to go and as I walked away from the table I saw a flash of red fly by and a male Cardinal landed in the tree across from me. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing a live one, only pictures. My silent prayers and call out to these wonderful little spirits had been heard. I bless and thank them.

We then flew from Milwaukee and had a 3 hour layover in Kansas City, MO. One of the smallest areas for connecting travelers I have ever seen. 100′s of people and a total of 4 stalls in the 2 bathrooms for the woman to use. Needless to say, there were lines. A little boy was having a melt down being tired and sick and I was beginning to wonder if noticing what was going on around me was really a good idea.

Thankfully there was free wi fi and I got locked into the internet for awhile. When I came too from the internet zombie land, I realized a woman in a wheelchair had been sitting alone and with no help for almost 2 hours.

Without thinking (I do that alot), I went up to her and asked if she was okay and needed some water. She looked at me with such pleading eyes and asked if I would take her to the restroom. Here this poor woman was with no one checking on her or helping her. She was invisible to all of us. I took her to the restroom, which was quite the event with only 2 stalls in it and asked the woman standing in line if they would be kind enough to let her go first. They all said yes though a few looked pained. Bless all of them for that kindness. I then got her some water and thankfully our plane landed about 15 minutes later.

What I found interesting is this woman’s reaction to my “seeing” her and those around us. She was grateful, but stunned and looked at me like I had two heads. So did the people around us. I took note of it, but at this point I’m use to it, especially being psychic and I find it amusing.

Strange that a simple act of “seeing” someone is looked at as odd. The simple awareness of looking around us at the plant and animal life and noticing them is usually never considered. How many times can we reach a hand out to someone if we “saw” them. How many times can we feel our heart fill with warmth at the sight of a bird we’ve never seen except in photos because we’ve gone outside of ourselves and ”see” them.

By the way, it had been a very stressful trip and I had become ill during it. All I wanted was to go home. But, because I looked around and out of my discomfort I was able to make myself feel better by doing something nice for someone and having animals do something nice for me, not to mention my angels. Don’t worry, I still managed to complain (especially about that airport and the plane being late) I am human, but that doesn’t matter now. That made this trip very successful.
